March 8–12, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.
Don’t just sit around over spring break — make something!
Announcing a new class for high-school students: Learn woodturning with Matt Monaco during the March 8–12 school break. For a limited time through Feb. 28th we are offering a $300 discount for High School Students, School ID required.
Learn the excitement of creating, shaping, and making objects on the wood lathe with this five-day introduction to woodturning with professional turner Matt Monaco. Turning is an important part of furniture-building but is also a satisfying discipline in itself.
In this class, you will learn the fundamentals of safe lathe use, as well as how to use gouges to shape the wood to your specifications. We will use a variety of skill-building exercises to refine your techniques as you learn how to control your tools and design and create beautiful forms.
Projects will include:
• a spinning top
• basic bowl
• container with lid
We will also apply a simple finish to the completed projects that will protect the wood and make it suitable for giving — or keeping.
Instructor Matt Monaco, owner of Monaco Bowls, designs and creates turned products for homeowners, gallery buyers, museum stores, and interior designers. In addition to producing his own work, Matt is a wonderful teacher and is a sponsored representative for Glaser Hi-Tec Tools, demonstrates for national woodturning clubs of the AAW, and leads classes at woodworking schools across the country, including the Southwest School of Woodworking.
