Veneered Table

September, 19 - September, 20 from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Doug Forsha, master woodworker and co-owner of De La Madera custom furniture shop in Scottsdale, is an absolute specialist in veneers, which allow woodworkers to use small amounts of beautiful (but expensive) woods to maximum effect. For this Weekend Workshop, Doug has designed an elegant side table with tapered mahogany* legs and a waterfall veneered top that will feature ribbon sepele in your choice of three different patterns. The veneer will continue down the sides of the top to create the “waterfall,” which produces an eye-catching effect, but is actually very simple to achieve. This workshop will give you an introduction to both furniture making and veneering and will result in a beautiful and functional piece of furniture that is ready for your choice of finish. (Not sure how to finish your work? Take our Finishing Basics class!)

*Please note: The table legs will be made of mahogany, not walnut as stated in some materials. Thank you for your understanding.

You will learn how to:

  • Prepare veneer to form a diamond match
  • Create a waterfall effect with veneer
  • Build the table top and apply veneer
  • Assemble the table
  • Prepare for finishing
