Design, turn, and finish a beautiful bowl — in just one day!

Professional turner Dane Groneman will lead you through this one day class, where you will discover the joy of shaping wood on the lathe.

You will gain skills and confidence as you create a beautiful and functional bowl, while learning the basics of turning— all in just one day.

You will learn:

  • Proper use and application of the lathe and tools
  • Turning with the chuck
  • Proper use of a bowl gouge
  • Refining a bowl
  • Surface preparation
  • Finishing a turned surface

Prerequisites: None. Open to beginners.

Tools required: All tools and materials supplied by the school.
Please bring ear and eye protection and a properly-fitting face mask that covers your nose and mouth.

Please note: If you are paying by cash or check, your registration is not complete until
payment is received.
Safety
Eye, hearing and dust protection are required in the machine room or when operating
machines in the bench room.
Long sleeves and loose-fitting clothing are not allowed around the power equipment.
Long hair must be pulled back and secured.
For your saftey: Shoes with open toes or open heels  are not allowed. Sandals and Crocs are not allowed.
Public health policy: Masks are optional, however, if you are exhibiting symptoms of
any contagious illness or if you have had a positive test for any contagious illness within
the past 5 days, please notify the school and do not attend class.

Meet your Instructor

Dane Groneman started turning during high school, when he discovered an old Powermatic lathe gathering dust in the corner of the wood shop. Intrigued, he learned the basics of turning by watching online tutorials and spent hours practicing each new technique.

Now a professional woodturner based in Phoenix, Arizona, Dane continues to develop his craft. He specializes in green-turned bowls and pop-fit boxes, each of which reflects not only his technical skills, but also the passion that he brings to each project.
