Join master finisher Tom Licurgo and learn the magic of finishing repair. While learning to finish is a critical skill for any furniture maker, the art of repairing a finish is just as important — and can be useful for non-woodworkers, too.
Tom is a finishing repair specialist and is back to share his secrets over two action-packed days. Hands-on exercises will empower you to tackle a wide variety of repairs on your own.
Whether you want to repair damage or refurbish an heirloom so that it will stand the test of time, this is the workshop for you!
You will learn how to:
- repair scratches
- repair gouges
- match color
- repair missing wood
- adjust color or tone
- adjust sheen
- and much more!
Prerequisites: None. Beginners welcome.
Tools required: None. All tools and materials supplied by the school.

Safety
Eye, hearing and dust protection are required in the machine room or when operating machines in the bench room.
Long sleeves and loose-fitting clothing are not allowed around the power equipment. Long hair must be pulled back and secured.
Closed-toe shoes are required. Open-toed shoes or sandals are not allowed.
COVID Policy: Masks are optional, however, if you are exhibiting symptoms of any contagious illness or if you have had a positive test for COVID or influenza within the past 5 days, please notify the school and do not attend class.

Meet your Instructor
Tom Licurgo has more than 25 years of experience in furniture finishing and retail furniture operations and currently works as Vice President of Operations for Ashley Furniture. Ashley is the No. 1 selling furniture brand in the world, with more than 700 Homestores in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and Japan.
Tom also works very closely with Ashley Industries on manufacturing quality and oversees all Ashley Furniture finishing and repair shops in the U.S.
Prior to joining Ashley Furniture, Tom served as a Corporate Manager for MOR Furniture, Grace Restaurants Incorporated and was CEO of FSC Furniture Finishing in Los Angeles.
