Sculpted Cabinet with Andy Glantz
Stretch your skills with this stunning sculpted cabinet that will bring instant elegance to your home.
In seven days, you’ll build a lovely free-standing cabinet — designed by master furniture-maker Andy Glantz — that has almost no straight lines and is filled with wonderfully curved details and complex surfaces.
With one drawer, one center compartment, and two shelves, this sweet piece gives you abundant storage as well as eye-catching looks.
Andy’s furniture designs are noted for their fluid curves and clever shaping, and he will guide you through making your own version of this special cabinet, which uses 8/4 cherry for the case and curly maple for the curved front and doors.
You’ll learn standard joinery techniques of loose tenon and stopped dadoes, as well as carving techniques that allow you to create surfaces that are curved from top to bottom as well as front to back.
We will practice using standard power tools as well as hand tools to increase efficiency in the shop, and also learn about grain direction and how to create a personal design vocabulary.
If you have some woodworking experience and are ready to learn carving and shaping — or ready to branch out into contemporary furniture design, this class is perfect for you!
