Enhance your marquetry skills and take your woodworking to the next level!

Marquetry is the classic art of creating pictures and decorative designs by the skillful use of the grain, figure and color of thin veneers. Once you understand the principles, you can do anything from adding simple accents to “painting” the entire surface of a woodworking project.

If you already have a little experience with Marquetry, join us for this exciting three-day class and learn how to create finer and more advanced designs, while building your confidence in this versatile art form.

Under the expert guidance of master woodworker Jeff Grossman, we will build on your existing knowledge through exercises that enhance your skills while you create at least two beautiful marquetry panels.

You will learn:

  • How to double-bevel cut with a scroll saw to produce tight joints
  • How to layout and trace your patterns
  • How to use the grain of the veneer to highlight your picture
  • How to create wider pieces of veneer
  • How to create longer pieces of veneer with seamless joints
  • How to flatten unruly veneer
  • How to wrap veneer around a curved surface
  • How to repair your marquetry at any point in the process — or afterwards
  • How to incorporate materials other than wood
  • How to create your own inlayed signature
  • Tips, tricks, and trade secrets for enhancing your marquetry skills

Prerequisite: Beginner Marquetry or equivalent experience. Must already know how to use a scroll saw.

Tools Required: Most tools and materials will be provided by the school, however there are a few items that you should own to do marquetry and will need to bring for this class:
