KBOX201K23 Surface Embellishments with Kelly Parker

November, 5 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM MST

$232.00

Carve it, gild it, burn it up!

Surface embellishment is a way to add visual interest and value to your work, and it can take a piece from merely good to truly remarkable.

Imagine opening a cabinet door and being greeted by a burst of color or running your fingers over the texture of a carved drawer front. Consider the visual impact of ebonized legs supporting a pale table top, or lifting the lid of a simple box to discover a gilded interior.

These are just a few examples of how embellishment can be used to enhance a project, but the applications are truly limited only by your imagination.

Embellishment techniques can be used on furniture, boxes, turned objects, and more. They can even transform a cheap, mass-produced item into a one-of-a-kind statement piece.

As an artist and furniture-maker, instructor Kelly Parker often makes creative use of embellishments to add visual and tactile interest to her work, and she is happy to share her secrets!

Join us for this fun and action-packed one-day class, as we explore a variety of surface embellishments including gilding, coloring, texturizing, ebonizing, pyrography, and general fun with fire. We will combine demonstrations with hands-on practice, so that you will be able to play and experiment as you discover how to take your work to a whole new level of WOW!

You will learn:

  • ebonizing
  • pyrography (wood burning)
  • gilding
  • how to create various textures in wood
  • how to add color to wood
  • how to have fun with fire! (a.k.a. torching your wood)
  • how to combine embellishments, such as color with texture, texture with gilding, ebonizing with pyrography and whatever other combo your heart desires!
