K24CHESS Heirloom Chess Board with Doug Forsha

November 23 @ 8:00 am - November 24 @ 5:00 pm

$383.00

Whether you’re looking for a fun gift, a woodworking challenge, or an upgrade to your game night, you’ll have a great time building this beautiful game board, perfect for chess or checkers.

In just two days, you’ll make an elegant board with a perfect checkerboard pattern enclosed in a mitered walnut frame with detailed molding and and elegant cutaway foot.

The finished board measures 18 1/2 x 18 1/2 and is both beautiful and functional for many years of play.

This class is an excellent introduction to lamination and working with veneers.

Even if you are a woodworking novice, instructor Doug Forsha will guide you through every step, including cutting and assembling veneered panels using the strip method, using a vacuum press for lamination, as well as building the frame and foot.

If time permits, students may choose to apply a hand rubbed oil finish to the board.

Finished size: 18 ½” x 18 ½” x 1 ½” with 1 ¾” squares. Chess pieces included.

You will learn:

  • How to use the strip method to create an accurate checkerboard pattern
  • Laminating with the vacuum press
  • How to create a mitered frame with molding and dado
