I24TBB Turning Better Bowls with Matt

September 13 @ 9:00 am - September 15 @ 5:00 pm

$544.00

Go beyond the basics with this advanced bowl turning class led by master turner Matt Monaco.

Learn to develop fine technique and tool control, while exploring your own unique asethetic in bowl design.

Under Matt’s guidance, you’ll practice becoming more efficient and effective on the lathe, and learn how to use traditional tools to produce exceptional results.

We’ll explore both traditional and contemporary bowl designs and learn how body ergonomics and tool control can produce better results — such as cutting cleaner surfaces right off the tool — to help you more consistently create high quality vessels.

Each student will design and make at least two bowls, giving you multiple opportunities to apply the many lessons we will learn. You’ll not only shape beautiful and functional bowls, but will also improve your skills as you focus on creating at the highest levels of craftsmanship.

Meet your Instructor

Professional woodturner Matt Monaco produces beautifully crafted bowls, plates, and platters from his studio in the Ozark region of Missouri. Combining thoughtful design and precise technique, Matt uses a standard lathe and turning tools to produce wood pieces that echo the precision and elegance of traditional pottery, creating a unique style that he rightfully describes as “wood-carved pottery.”

As the founder and owner of Monaco Bowls, Matt designs and creates turned products for homeowners, gallery buyers, museum stores, and interior designers. In addition to 19 years of turning experience he produces his own work, and demonstrates for national wood turning clubs of the AAW, and teaches at woodworking schools across the country.
