Ready to take the next step in your woodworking journey? Fundamentals II is the second course in our three-part Fundamentals series, building directly on the foundation of Fundamentals I. In this class, you’ll deepen your hand tool skills while learning to safely and confidently incorporate essential power tools into your work.

This hands-on course is designed to improve your skills through guided exercises and a classic project made of Cherry wood: a classic workbench built with mortise-and-tenon joinery, bridle joints, drawbore joints, and tusked tenons. Along the way, you will improve your marking out skills, reading and following a drawing, while adding power tools to your knowledge base, and build the confidence to take on more advanced projects.

You will learn:

  • Safe use of power tools, including jointer, planer, band saw, miter saw, and table saw
  • Hand-cut mortise and tenon
  • Sharpening and honing to a razor sharp edge.
  • Shaping and refining with spokeshaves
  • Surface preparation for finishing
  • Reading and Working to a drawing
  • Marking and laying out to a drawing
  •  Proper gluing up
