Finishing Intermediate I20

September, 26 - October, 4 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Finishing Basics

The finish on any woodworking project is not only protective, but can greatly enhance the beauty and appearance of any piece—if it is chosen thoughtfully and applied properly. This hands-on course will focus on more advanced finishing techniques, including spray finishing, varnish, and lacquer, and you will make several samples to build your skills and refine your technique. Instructor Jim Altman is one of the best finishers in the country, so come prepared with all of your finishing questions.

You will learn:

  • Color theory, and why you need to know it
  • Finishing options and how to pick the right one for your project
  • How to understand product labeling
  • How to choose the right application for each product
  • Use of sanding sealer
  • Use of stains
  • Use of dyes
  • Layering the finish

Prerequisite: Finishing Basics or equivalent.

Schedule: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., two consecutive weekends.

Tools required: All tools and materials supplied by the school.

Please bring ear and eye protection and a safety mask.

Class size: Maximum 8.

Please read and understand our Refund and Cancellation policies. By making payment you acknowledge that you have read and understand these policies.

PLEASE NOTE: In addition to our standard class policies, we are taking additional precautions due to the COVID-19 virus. Effective May 26, 2020:

  • We will be strictly limiting class sizes to no more than eight (8) students to allow for adequate distancing between class participants.
