Daisy_B26 Wedge Table with Kelly Parker

February 16 @ 9:00 AM - February 20 @ 5:00 PM

$980.00

Special table — special skills!

Join professional woodworker Kelly Parker to make this stunning side table with a fascinating wedge design, nicknamed the Daisy Table.

An accomplished artist and furniture-maker, and owner of Woodsong Studio, Kelly is noted for her creative designs that merge contemporary style with a high level of craftsmanship — such as this table with its top made of six individual “floating” wedges.

Kelly is also an experienced instructor, and loves to coach other woodworkers on how to work safely and efficiently while expanding their abilities.

In five fun days, you will construct your own “Daisy” table while learning the basics of solid wood construction, including exposed-dowel joinery and finishing.

Along the way, you’ll develop skills and confidence with common shop tools including bandsaw, miter saw, bandsaw, drill press and router table, and will learn to make and use jigs to create joints that are both functional and decorative.

You will learn strategies for successful glue-ups and finishing techniques, and Kelly will also guide you through basic problem-solving processes that will be useful on future projects.

Time permitting, you will also have the option to experiment with surface embellishment techniques such as pyrography, carved textures, ebonizing, and color application, so that the table becomes a reflection of your personal aesthetic.

You’ll leave class with a unique table and new level of woodworking skills!

You will learn:

  • Safe use of common hand and power tools
  • How to read woodworking plans
  • Successful construction techniques for solid wood
  • Exposed-dowel joinery
  • How to build and use shop-made jigs
  • Pattern routing
  • Problem solving skills
  • Stress-free glue-ups
  • Use of sub-tops to attach a leg substructure to a table top
  • Creative use of wood dowels
  • Basic embellishment techniques: wood burning, textures, ebonizing and color
  • Easy finishing techniques

Prerequisite: None. All levels welcome. Beginner-friendly.
