Danish Cord Bench with David Fleming

Danish Cord Weaving Workshop

Craft a bench that blends tradition, comfort, and timeless design

While solid wood furniture has its own lasting beauty, it becomes even more striking when paired with complementary materials. One of the finest examples is the art of weaving Danish Cord seats — a technique that brings both comfort and style to chairs and benches.

For nearly a century, Danish Cord has been the hallmark of Danish Modern and Mid-Century Modern design. This durable material, made from three strands of twisted paper, is admired for its strength, beauty, and the intricate patterns it creates.

You will Learn

In this engaging four-day class, held over two weekends, master craftsman David Fleming will guide you through the complete process of weaving a double side rail Danish Cord seat — done without nails or staples.

Each participant receives:

  • A hardwood bench frame (19″ L × 16″ W × 19″ H)

  • A generous 2-pound coil of authentic Danish Cord

  • All necessary materials and tools

Class Schedule

This is a four day class, held over two consecutive weekends.

Day 1 – Introduction to materials, tools, and techniques. Assemble your bench frame and prepare for weaving.
Day 2 – learn the skills to build and shape the bench
Day 3 – Begin the weft pattern and develop the seat’s structure.
Day 4 – Complete the weft pattern, producing a finished woven seat that reflects your craftsmanship.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home a fully finished bench — a piece that showcases not only your new weaving skills but also the enduring artistry of Danish Cord craftsmanship.

Join us for this immersive workshop, where tradition meets innovation and every participant creates functional artistry to last for years to come.
